The thing that is in style again, of course, is Jim Ed Brown himself, who at the age of 80 cherishes the opportunity to slip into his old-fashioned threads once again. It has been 35 years since he's last made a record and, understandably, a lot has happened since then, including a lung cancer diagnosis made not long after the recording for In Style Again was finished, but this isn't an album with mortality on its mind. Brown settles into the classic honky tonk and Nashville balladry that have been his stock in trade throughout his career, sometimes indulging in a little bit of a country corn (the soft-shoe shuffle "I Love It"), sometimes reviving old favorites ("Don't Let Me Cross Over"), but always sounding like he's having a whale of time making a new record.

2010 release from Pete Brown, one of the great unsung heroes of the 1960s' Brit Rock scene, recorded with musical partner Phil Ryan. Comprising 14 tracks, the album also contains magnificent contributions from the likes of Arthur Brown, Mick Taylor, Clem Clempson, Jim Mullen, and Annie Whitehead, as well as some inimitably Jazz-flavoured horn charts from a stellar brass section including Lee Goodall, Laurie Brown, and a cameo from Art Themen. Highlights include a superb duet between Pete Brown and Maggie Bell on the sulphurous, smouldering 'Between Us', and Brown's trademark lyrical wit suffuses the likes of 'Klip-On Weirdness Kit'. The whole album is a delightfully, reassuringly old school Brit Rock record that radiates the kind of quality ensemble playing that many thought was extinct when the '60s morphed into the '70s.

This is a pleasant, very traditional jazz offering from British tenor saxophonist Jim Tomlinson, who is strongly influenced by the suave, pre-bop style of Lester Young. Leading off with a "Sweet Georgia Brown"-based original called "Makin' Brownies," Tomlinson and band establish a confident, swinging feel that sets up strong solos by the leader, pianist John Pearce, and guitarist Colin Oxley. Bassist Simon Thorpe and drummer Steve Brown ably handle rhythm section duties throughout.
