In 2015, Jensen released the vibrant Morose Elephant album that captures the flavor of the band’s creative force. Combining seven originals with covers of songs from Memphis Minnie and Amos Milburn plus a traditional gospel hymn, Jensen articulates the depth of his musical vision with help from a number of friends including Victor Wainwright, Reba Russell, and Annie Harris. The disc received even more critical acclaim as the band’s previous release, Road Worn and Ragged (2013), both produced by Jensen. This led to two consecutive Blues Blast Music Award nominations in the Sean Costello Rising Star category (2014/2015).

A Tribute to Jack Johnson is a soundtrack composed by Miles Davis to accompany a documentary film about the life of boxer Jack Johnson. For the score, Davis said he wanted to put together what he called "the greatest rock and roll band you have ever heard." The line-up featured John McLaughlin and Sonny Sharrock (guitars), Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea (keyboards), Bennie Maupin (clarinet), and Jack DeJohnette and Billy Cobham (drums). Produced by Teo Macero, the soundtrack was recorded in two sessions between February and April of 1970. Both sessions took place at the 30th Street Studio in New York City.

This seven-CD limited-edition box set from Mosaic is another mind-boggling collection. The masterful trombonist J.J. Johnson recorded steadily for Columbia during the 1956-61 period, heading groups that ranged from quartets to sextets that performed solid hard bop. Johnson is joined on various selections by tenors Bobby Jaspar (doubling on flute) and Clifford Jordan; cornetist Nat Adderley; the young trumpeter Freddie Hubbard; pianists Hank Jones, Tommy Flanagan, Cedar Walton, and Victor Feldman; bassists Percy Heath, Wilbur Little, Paul Chambers, Spanky DeBrest, Arthur Harper, and Sam Jones; and drummers Elvin Jones, Max Roach, Albert "Tootie" Heath, and Louis Hayes.

In 1925, when the Charleston was all the rage, Fletcher Henderson, generally credited as "the inventor, of big-band jazz", was still firmly installed at the New York's celebrated Roseland Ballroom, and calling upon the services of such jazz star as Louis Armstrong, Busier Bailey, Don Redman and Coleman Hawkins.

We recorded at The Carriage House Studio, an historic Angelean architectural relic that was once my family’s first home. It now belongs to the rare, wry and gifted Sheldon Gomberg, who recorded and produced this album. Sheldon, our dear friend/groomsman/son’s godfather, tenderly captained these songs to find our right interpretation.

With her marriage on the rocks and looking for a fresh start, Carole King moved to Los Angeles in 1967. More specifically, Laurel Canyon, where she fell in with the nascent singer/songwriter crowd. She and bassist/boyfriend Charles Larkey (formerly of the Myddle Class, a band she and then-husband Gerry Goffin had signed to their record label) soon formed a band, adding old friend from NYC, guitarist Danny Kortchmar. The trio spent time at King's house working on a batch of songs she had written with Goffin (some previously released by other acts, some not), plus some co-written by another member of Myddle Class, Don Palmer, and fellow Brill Building refugee Toni Stern. Thanks to their industry connections it wasn't long before they had a record deal. Adding drummer Jim Gordon and naming themselves the City, they hit the studio with Lou Adler producing. The outcome of the sessions was the thoroughly charming Now That Everything's Been Said LP. Released in 1968 on Ode Records, the album had one foot in the kind of radio pop bands like the Monkees and the Mamas & the Papas were cranking out and another in the earthy, homegrown realm of singer/songwriters like Joni Mitchell and, a few years later, King herself.
