Julian Bream was born in London and brought up in a musical environment. His father played jazz guitar and the young Bream was impressed by hearing the playing of Django Reinhardt.
Bream began his lifelong association with the guitar by strumming along on a small gut-string Spanish guitar at a very young age to dance music on the radio. The president of the Philharmonic Society of Guitars, Dr Boris Perott, gave Bream lessons, while Bream's father became the society librarian, giving Bream access to a large collection of rare music.

German brothers Julian and Roman Wasserfuhr show the action-packed nature of Brooklyn through hard-hitting, horn-and-piano entanglements. Their new album, Landed in Brooklyn and features established musicians, like Grammy-winning Blackstar tenor saxophonist Donny McCaslin, who is all over this nine-track extravaganza, bassist Tim Lefebvre, and Kneebody drummer Nate Wood. Julian plays trumpet and flugelhorn, while Roman goes off on piano, marimba, and seaboard. The two received the break of a lifetime when Siegfried “Siggi” Loch, founder of the independent German jazz label ACT, gave the brothers their first shot at 17 and 20.

Some have called for his assassination; still others have called him an angel. Either way, almost everyone has an opinion on Julian Assange. And now the story of his rise as the head of one of the more prolific whistle blowing organizations ever is getting the Hollywood treatment. The feature film “The Fifth Estate,” starring Benedict Cumberbatch as a sometimes callous but always complicated Julian Assange, tells the story of WikiLeaks from its early obscurity to near world domination and eventual decline. Inevitably, the script for the film was leaked to Assange and WikiLeaks and they were not happy with what they read, posting an open letter response to the film.

Trombonist Julian Priester, after playing with many different groups, including those of Sun Ra, Lionel Hampton, Dinah Washington, Max Roach, and Duke Ellington, was a member of the Herbie Hancock Sextet during 1970-1973. Hancock's intriguing ensemble went from funk to free blowing, and in its later period was experimenting with synthesizers. On Love, Love, Priester continues in that vein. The two lengthy improvisations are mostly on one-chord repetitive rhythmic vamps stated by the bass, featuring sound explorations and plenty of electronics. Only on the last half of the second medley does Priester himself emerge a bit from the electronic sounds. One is reminded of Bitches Brew, since that is an obvious influence, but also Hancock's group and Weather Report. The music develops slowly, but listeners with patience will enjoy the blending of the many different voices in this unusual musical stew.
