Bound to Roll, Julian Sas’ eight studio album, is a record that took time to make. More than two-and-a-half years, tells the Dutch blues man, I had tons of ideas and was writing constantly but a lot of that went straight into the bin. ‘Bound to Roll’ is a very personal record. This album is about pleasure, enjoyment, love, loss, pain and sadness. About real life, about the blues, about experiences that, I hope, made me stronger and a better human being. For me making this album was a way of dealing with my emotions.

Julian Sas stepped into 2005 with a brand-new album, a brand-new band and a brand-new sound. “Twilight Skies Of Life” is Julian’s sixth studio album and a giant leap forward for the axe-man from the Dutch Delta, the ‘Land van Maas en Waal’, that part of the lowlands where rivers Maas and Waal (a branch of the Rhine) are trying to emulate their big sister Mississippi. Julian spent four weeks on “Twilight” in the studio with producer Jos Haagmans, who is best known for his work with multi-platinum Dutch-language bards Boudewijn de Groot and Frank Boeijen. The sound got heavier, muddier, fuller. That has a lot to do with the fact that ten years of experience led to a truly international four-piece…

In the year 1996 Julian Sas, young blues-man from The Netherlands, released his debut album Where Will It End!?. Today, twenty years later, that question still remains unanswered. The end is nowhere near. The Sas Boogie Train Anno 2016 rumbles faster and louder than ever. Julian plays better, sings better, and writes better. But going back to those first albums, all the ingredients were present from day one. A diamond in the rough is made to shine by grinding. In the case of the Julian Sas Band by playing, playing and more playing. Long sets … many shows….Holland, Belgium, France Germany, Hungary, Poland, Norway, Finland, England, Ireland….. For great music borders don't exist. 1996 - 2000 box-set includes the music the first incarnation of the Julian Sas Band recorded. 5 years and 5 albums of superb blues-rock…

In the summer of 2015, I participated in "Music From The Americas", a series of live concerts put on by CIUT Radio in Toronto. I performed a variety of songs dealing (mostly) with 'folk heroes' and 'villians' of the Americas. Andrew Galloway attended that concert and thought we should try making a CD like that? I'd previously recorded some of the songs I performed at that show, so I didn't re-do them on here - but I've added some that I did not play at the CIUT show. This CD is more stripped-down than my previous discs. I still perform regularly with my musical friends, but, I've had many requests for some more solo recordings… I did, however, smuggle some of my musician friends onto this CD.

On this album by clarinetist Julian Bliss, the titular work refers to gumboot dancing, South African miners' dances that during the apartheid era conveyed coded meanings as well as joy in the face of enormous hardship. A look at YouTube will reveal plenty of examples of a form that has been little known outside South Africa. Composer David Bruce's clarinet quintet falls into two parts, an untitled slow "Part One" (track 1) that presumably sets the dark scene of the mine, followed by a second part consisting of five dances.

“Little Flower” was created during Julian Erdem's three-year stay in New York City. To the drummer and composer, the term "little flower" is a metaphor for our fragile, unprotected, and therefore “true” self. The varied music of “Little Flower” creates an atmosphere floating between melancholy, hope, and forgiveness.

Phronesis have built a formidable reputation over the last decade as one of the most powerful and energetic small ensembles on the European jazz scene. Known for their virtuosity, dynamism and telepathic group interplay, the trio have commanded impressive media attention and established a substantial fanbase on a global level. Following six critically acclaimed trio albums, the band have now completed their most ambitious recording to date with the release of The Behemoth. Consisting of ten arrangements and re-imaginings of compositions from their back catalogue by Julian Argüelles, this remarkable, vibrant new album featuring the Frankfurt Radio Big Band is rich in colour and bursting with spirit and creativity.
