Bassist Lonnie Plaxico is perhaps best known for his associations with Greg Osby & M-Base, & for being the long-time bassist for Cassandra Wilson. He was the leader of several recordings made for the now static Muse label in the '80s & '90s. On January 29, 2003, Plaxico was leading an energetically funky sextet at New York City's Jazz Standard.

Hunted is a painful film about childhood that offers an unusual image of male tenderness and nurturing, a melodrama in which the vulnerable individual is pitted against overwhelming and oppressive odds. In Hunted, young Scots boy Robbie runs away from his adoptive London home and attaches himself to a young tearaway, Chris (Dirk Bogarde), Robbie fears his father and the marks of beatings on his back confirm that he is right to do so…

This two-LP set lives up to its title. First Duke Ellington and his orchestra are heard in 1952 during a period when they were being overlooked by the jazz media but still producing a great deal of worthy music. The second half of this release is taken from a European tour in 1965 and features some prime late-period playing from trumpeter Cootie Williams.
