‘Celebration’ is a joyous collection of the greatest music from the United Kingdom, combining 8 new tracks with 12 favourites selected by Katherine from her hit recordings. It includes such beloved tunes as ‘Rule Britannia’, ‘Jerusalem’, ‘I Vow To Thee My Country’, ‘Ae Fond Kiss’ and the Welsh national anthem ‘Land Of My Fathers’ – a song very close to Katherine’s heart. Bursting with patriotic spirit, Katherine’s album pays tribute to Her Majesty The Queen on her 90th birthday, with such songs as ‘Someone to Watch Over Me’, which was the most popular song in the year the Queen was born, and the rarely-heard three-verse rendition of the national anthem. The album is Katherine’s first since having a baby, and opens with the newly commissioned song, ‘This Mother’s Heart’, as Katherine’s gift to the Queen.

While still in her mid-twenties, Welsh mezzo-soprano Katherine Jenkins emerged as Britain's all-time best-selling classical artist, although critics charged her success was more a result of physical beauty than musical talent. Born June 29, 1980, in Neath, West Glamorgan, Wales, Jenkins fell under the sway of classical music at age seven, studying piano and singing in her local choir throughout childhood. In 1990, she joined the Royal School of Church Music Cathedral Singers and also served with the National Youth Choir of Wales.

Katherine Jenkins is the new diva from Wales. I have found her voice to be quite pleasant. I'm not usually into mezzo-soprano stuff, but I knew there was something special about Katherine's voice. Many of the songs on this album have been sung before by other artists, but Katherine puts her special edge on them to make them sound different. What I found to be odd is that Katherine's voice reminds me of Charlotte Church sometimes. Must be a Welsh thing. But really, Katherine has set herself apart from any other artist. I don't think I could compare her with anyone.

Katherine Jenkins is classified as a lyric mezzo. This is album is the first one to showcase the beautiful lower range of her voice. If you love Jenkins' high notes, they are there too. But it seems as if she has taken great care to avoid belting out the high notes. Instead she sings with a softer touch that often makes her voice sound, at the same time, delicate and confident. Her beautiful voice still soars; it's just more like a dove than an eagle.

Reflecting her most high-profile year to date thanks to some controversial tabloid confessions, a celebrity relationship, and a judging role on ITV's Popstar to Operastar, Welsh soprano Katherine Jenkins' seventh studio album, Believe, is undoubtedly the most accessible and commercial offering of her six-year career. The traditional opera standards and arias of her early albums Premiere and Second Nature are instead replaced by classical pop renditions of contemporary pop songs and film themes produced by Grammy Award-winning David Foster (Michael Bublé, Celine Dion).

Katherine Jenkins is one of classical music's breakout stars who's managed to gain mass popularity, and this album sees her back in territory that's not only comfortable for her, but also for a large audience. Plenty of the material, like "Silent Night" and "Abide with Me," for instance, is quite familiar, although Jenkins certainly does them justice – this isn't filler. The inclusion of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" (albeit in a gorgeous, gauzy version) might be a little baffling, since, in spite of its title, it's not exactly sacred, but she does give a nod to gospel on "Down in the River to Pray." Apart from the pieces that are more hymns and carols, there's also a smattering of classical material, with "Agnus Dei" and "Panis Angelicus" as standouts. It's a decidedly choral album, with some excellent arrangements, and Jenkins truly does shine. It's not just an album for those with deep spiritual beliefs, but one that manages to straddle the boundaries between classical, sacred, and popular, performing a tricky balancing act quite adroitly. This will enhance her stature, without doubt, both critically and commercially.
