Fourteen musicians, 46 instruments, and the astonishing rhythmic variety of the Afro-Cuban culture; ingredients for a percussion fiesta. Under the joint leadership of the veteran drummer Louis Bellson and the gifted Cuban percussionist Walfredo de los Reyes, Sr., a cross-section of American and Caribbean musicians explores the expressive possibilities in the complex rhythms developed within the musical traditions of the Nañigo descendants of Carabali tribesmen taken to Cuba from the Congo. The music is rich in texture, variety, and percussive melody. Warning: the compulsion to dance may be irresistible.

Unfortunately, the popularity of Southern rock was starting to fade by the early 1980s, the success of 38 Special being a rare exception. The Outlaws released Los Hombres Malo (Spanish for "The Bad Men") in 1982, and it was the Florida band's last studio album for Arista. By this time, the band had been whittled down to a quartet, so it lost its classic three-guitar attack.

This collaboration between April March and the Southern California band Los Cincos is a pleasant listen, often sounding like a mix between the Cardigans and the Ventures. March's nice vocals glide over the most mature music Los Cincos have ever recorded. Adding depth to the record is the violin playing of ex-That Dog member Petra Haden, whose playing is perfectly suited for this material, especially on the album's centrepiece, "Last Train to Christmas." The highlights include a near-perfect pop tune in "Olive Green Dictionary" that concludes with Eno-esque ambience, and the equally catchy "Bebert," sung in French. All in all, April March and Los Cincos is a charming underground pop record with not one bad cut.

Los Dug Dug's are a mexican rock group which started off in the early sixties as a high school band called Xippos Rock, with members Armando Nava and Jorge de la Torre. In 1966 Xippos Rock began a road trip from Durango to Tijuana and half way through the trip, the name was changed to Los Dug Dug's, an abbreviation of the band's native city and state. Once the band had arrived at Tijuana they commenced there ascent of Mexican Rock, soon landing a regular gig at Mike's Bar, where they firmly established their reputation. At this time they also did some gigs across the border in the USA where they picked up the latest sounds to take back to Mexico with them.
