Prince spent the latter half of the '80s courting the pop audience, and by the time of Graffiti Bridge, he had lost much of his R&B fan base. As a response, he formed the New Power Generation and recorded Diamonds and Pearls, his first record to reconnect with the urban audience since 1999, as well as his first to acknowledge the hip-hop revolution. The New Power Generation is a more skilled band than the Revolution, and they are able to make Prince's funk jazzier, particularly on "Willing and Able," the breezy "Strollin'" and "Walk Don't Walk." It's clear that these subtly textured songs are where his heart is at…

Dangerous Toys is an Austin, Texas-based hard rock band with often humorous lyrics. Founded in 1987, Dangerous Toys had released four full-length albums and one live album before unofficially disbanding at the turn of the millennium. The R*tist 4*merly Known as Dangerous Toys is the fourth album by Dangerous Toys. The album's title is a parody of the name used in reference to American recording artist Prince from 1991 - 2000. The album cover art work is also a parody of Prince's album Lovesexy.

The Black Album is the 1987 album by Prince. It was originally meant for release in December 1987 as the follow up to his Sign 'O' The Times album, what would have been his second album that year, until Prince had a change of heart, feeling he didn't want to share that level of darkness with people. He made a new album in place of it called Lovesexy and only using one song from The Black Album for it. Once Prince was "The Artist Formerly Known As", he was comfortable with releasing it but only for a limited time. Warner Bros. released it on 22 November, 1994 and was in print for only a year before being pulled from shelves.

Few artists have created a body of work as rich and varied as Prince. During the '80s, he emerged as one of the most singular talents of the rock & roll era, capable of seamlessly tying together pop, funk, folk, and rock. Not only did he release a series of groundbreaking albums; he toured frequently, produced albums and wrote songs for many other artists, and recorded hundreds of songs that still lie unreleased in his vaults. With each album he released, Prince has shown remarkable stylistic growth and musical diversity, constantly experimenting with different sounds, textures, and genres.
