’On a Storyteller's Night’ is the fifth studio album by British melodic rock band Magnum, released in 1985 on FM Records. The album is widely considered as Magnum's breakthrough album. This album features one of the Tony Clarkin's most thoughtful songs, "Les Morts Dansant" - a simple song in that paints a picture of a man being executed by a firing squad. It is the way in which the song accomplishes this, with some very colorful and imaginative metaphors. The song was covered in 1987 by American singer Patty Smyth of the band Scandal on her first solo album Never Enough, but because of its French title the song was retitled "Call To Heaven".
For a musician like Tony Clarkin who composes constantly, viewing and selecting the material he has written is always one of the most significant moments during the creation process of a new Magnum album. On the one hand it s a luxury to have the opportunity to separate the wheat from the chaff and to be in a position to use only the strongest numbers. On the other hand it's also a difficult process, because after all the creator of those songs has grown fond of every single one of them. I usually start composing for our next album immediately after the release of the previous one, Clarkin explains…
"When The Good Times Come" is the second studio album by British melodic rock band Hard Rain.
The much delayed DVD of the Tony Ashton show at Abbey Road in 2000 is finally out on DVD. It has twenty two tracks, including all the PAL and Company Of Snakes performance, as well the three track Tony Ashton set, and Pete York / Eddie Hardin's set. A few of the opening acts are missing, but all the important stuff is here. It's been done as a combined DVD / CD package, so you also get the same set on a 2xCD, all in a thick digipak.
Magnum are an English rock band from Birmingham. Formed as a four piece by Tony Clarkin (guitar, songwriter), Bob Catley (vocals), Kex Gorin (drums) and Bob Doyle (bass) in order to appear as the resident band at The Rum Runner night club in Birmingham. Magnum have undergone several changes in personnel over the years; however, the core of Catley and Clarkin remain.
Empire released their fourth album "Chasing Shadows" in November, with White handling all vocal duties. Doogie White replaced Tony Martin as the frontman of the German band Empire. This is consistent hard rock with great melodies and hooks wrapped in a hard driving performance. Mr. White appears to have been born to sing these songs.
"Trading Souls" was the sophomore release from Empire, the super-group project from guitarist Rolf Munkes. Alongside the German axe slingers skills we have the formidable vocal talents of Tony Martin (ex Black Sabbath), the keyboard wizardry of Don Airey (Deep Purple / ex Rainbow), whilst bass legend Neil Murray (ex Whitesnake) forms a tight rhythmic unit with drummer Gerald Kloos (Winterlong / Condition Red). There’s even a special guest in drummer Anders Johansson (Hammerfall / ex Yngwie Malmsteen) who plays on two tracks. Originally released in 2003, "Trading Souls" saw Empire return after their 2001 debut "Hypnotica" with an album full of killer songs in a classic melodic hard rock setting. These 10 tracks perfectly showcase the combined decades of experience and talent from this super group. The end result is a hard rock record brimming with catchy anthems and great ensemble playing.
Collaborative project featuring German guitarist Rolf Munkes, Neil Murray (Whitesnake, Company Of Snakes), Gerald Kloos, Lance King (Balance Of Power) and guests Don Airey (Rainbow, Whitesnake, Ozzy), Yngwie Malmsteen, Mark Boals (Malmsteen, Ring Of Fire) and Hammerfall drummer Anders Johansson - all names that you know. Now you can get them all on one CD, under the banner of EMPIRE.
