Recomposed by Max Richter: Vivaldi - The Four Seasons is the 2012 album by neo-classical composer Max Richter. The Four Seasons may be the most cherished piece of classical music ever composed. This album is part of Deutsche Grammophon’s new Recomposed series, which invites contemporary musicians to re-work an original piece of music. Award-winning composer Max Richter approached Vivaldi’s masterpiece as not only an admirer, but more importantly, as a composer. This re-work is engaging, attractive and highly accessible. The album features British violinist Daniel Hope, German conductor Andre de Ridder and the Konzerthaus Chamber Orchestra.

Max Richter has written a new landmark recording: SLEEP is 8 hours long – the equivalent of a night’s rest – and is actually and genuinely intended to send the listener to sleep. "It’s an eight-hour lullaby," says Max. The ground-breaking new work is scored for piano, strings, electronics and vocals – but no words. "It’s my personal lullaby for a frenetic world," he says. "A manifesto for a slower pace of existence."

This approach made him an in-demand composer for film and other types of performing arts, as well as an acclaimed artist in his own right. Born in Germany in the mid-'60s, Richter and his family moved to the U.K. when he was still a little boy; by his early teens, he was listening to the canon of classical music, as well as modern composers including Philip Glass, whose sound was a major influence on Richter.
