2012 marks the 40th anniversary of the hugely influential Philadelphia International Records. To mark this, and following our reissue of some of the labels other acts such as the Three Degrees, Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes and the O’Jays, we are pleased to present another album from one of the most identifiable voices of the Philly Sound. WAR OF THE GODS reached R&B #12 and Pop #110 upon its release in 1973. Some of the artists backing Billy on this album are Bobby Eli, Bunny Sigler, Norman Harris, Leon Huff and Ron Baker.
Freddie Mercury was a man of many talents and many different sides. The songs he wrote for and with Queen filled stadiums around the globe and have rightly gone down in history, but he also embarked on a solo career that took him from the clubs of Munich and New York to the great opera houses of the world. He was the ultimate showman, but he kept his private life away from the prying eyes of the media; a larger than life rock star who loved disco, classical music and ballet. He was a restless spirit, a true chameleon who reveled in his own contradictions. All the different sides of this iconic musician can be found on Freddie Mercury: Messenger Of The Gods The Singles…
A mightily fine appetizer for the upcoming studio album: the limited mini album in digipak format boasts a brand new song and two live tracks taped at Wacken Open Air 2011!
TWILIGHT OF THE GODS has arrived to claim its place in the hallowed hall of the Heavy Metal elite! The band, a legitimate super group featuring Alan Averill (PRIMORDIAL), Nick Barker (ex-CRADLE OF FILTH, ex-DIMMU BORGIR, ex-TESTAMENT, ex-EXODUS), Rune Eriksen (AURA NOIR, ex-AVA INFERI, ex-MAYHEM), Patrik Lindgren (THYRFING), and Frode Glesnes (EINHERJER) deliver one of this century’s most compelling, classic Heavy Metal albums with its debut 'Fire On the Mountain'. Truly classic metal through and through, 'Fire On the Mountain' is flush with epic galloping riffs, memorable calls-to-arms, and the tough street-ready attitude of men on a mission. Raise your horns, wield your leather and steel, and battle towards Valhalla with TWILIGHT OF THE GODS! A panoramic "wide screen" music, as cinema fans might say, and which sounds like the missing link between the grandeur of Richard Warner and the orchestral work of someone like Nick Cave.
This is the ambition underlying Rite of the End by the Polish composer Stefan Wesołowski, the second album to be released at Ici d'ailleurs after Kompleta in 2015.
A really special record from a really special group – one of two sublime 70s gems from Azteca – a wicked blend of jazz, funk, Latin, and soul – all put together by a young Coke Escovedo! Coke's ostensibly the leader of the group, but there's also a richly collaborative feel going on – a style that brings together jazz players like Tom Harrell on trumpet, Mel Martin on saxes, George Muribus on Fender Rhodes, and Flip Nunez on organ – and Latin players like Victor Pantoja on congas, Coke Escovedo on timbales, and Pete Escovedo on added percussion. In fact, the set's a key early example of the strength of the Escovedo family – and like their best later efforts, the set really stretches out and pushes the boundaries of conventional genres. There's also some great guest work from Lenny White on drums, Mike Nock on keyboards, and Neal Schon on guitars – and vocals are by a range of singers who really keep things fresh.
