This exciting release from period ensemble Musica Fiata is a rare treat, featuring the work of composer Johann Hermann Schein (1586) and the heterogeneous collection of motets that make up his Cymbalum Sionium. Although Cymbalum Sionium has always attracted musicological interest, performances of most works within the piece have been very rare up until now. Schein’s melodic gifts, harmonic sensitivity as well as feeling for varied affects and great sense of structure enabled him to absorb an incredible range of musical influences, imbuing them with the freshness of a gifted young composer creating music which still moves us today.

This album presents an overview of late 17th century instrumental music in Bologna, in both da chiesa and de camera styles, composed by contemporaries of Arcangelo Corelli. The evolution from Maurizio Cazzati's Ciaccona, provides an excellent example of the extensive mutual influence of the Bolognese masters.

Corelli was a peer of and huge influence on Vivaldi, as well as the founder of modern violin technique; his work consists of six opus numbers comprising 72 works altogether. They are all written for string instruments only, mainly sonatas for orchestra or, in the case of Opus 6 , 12 concerti grossi that played a major role in establishing the form. Performed here by the Musica Amphion under the direction of harpsichordist/organist Pieter-Jan Belder.

Arcangelo Corelli's contribution to the history of violin performance was immense. All six of his published collections of instrumental music demonstrate his exceptional skill as a violinist and composer, but it was in his Violin Sonatas, Op. 5 that Corelli had the most significant impact on violin technique. The Op. 5 collection consists of eleven sonatas and a twelfth sonata with a series of twenty-three variations on the famous ""Follia"" theme. All twelve pieces contain a variety of difficult violin techniques. Lina Tur Bonet is one of the most exciting violinists of the younger generation. She is accompanied by her ensemble Musica Alchemica.

These chamber works bring Sony's adventurous, timely Ligeti series to a natural pinnacle. Long the challenger of stylistic stasis and customary demonstrations of excellence, Ligeti has outdone himself here (as he did with the fantastic Mechanical Music release). The Trio for Violin, Horn, and Piano (1982) challenges its players to stay in step with each other even while expanding virtuosity to the breaking point. Marie-Luise Neunecker plays such full horn parts that they roll flow over the tonal bounds, as does Saschko Gawriloff's violin and Pierre-Laurent Aimard's piano… –Andrew Bartlett..

She subsequently adopted the moniker Sweet Anima and released an eponymous album of English-language songs written by Lucio Battisti in 2000. In addition, she collaborated with Giampaolo Antoni in the electro-pop duo Aromatic, which resulted in the album Still Alive (2004). Most successful among her recording ventures, however, was Musica Nuda, a vocal jazz-pop collaboration with Piccola Orchestra Avion Travel bassist Ferruccio Spinetti that made its critically acclaimed eponymous album debut in 2004.

The second album by Petra Magoni (vocal) and Ferruccio Spinetti (bass) is another piece of an original project, unique in many respects in Italian music. The voice sharp, ironic, bad, sweet Magoni moves back to the great songs of pop music: Come Together, Never Can Say Goodbye, but also original compositions like the beautiful Io Sono Metà or Le Due Corde Vocali in which joins, for the first time, the voice of Ferruccio Spinetti. Two voices to tell a story, a dialogue that sums up well what do you look for in Musica Nuda 2: the sharp reduction to the bare essentials across with ironic depth.

Myth,Sallust tells us, is the relation of things that never happened, but always are.Ever since the fourteenth century, music has drunk deep from the source of myths. When composers were not dealing with sacred history, with the great morality tales of Christ, they turned to myth as to a great art and a matchless repertory of exemplary stories.Metamorfosi Trecento is a musical exploration of myths and of the polyphony of the late Middle Ages.
