Microsurgery of the Cranial Base
English | April 30, 2013 | ISBN: 3709130905 | 421 Pages | PDF | 46 MB

The preceding volumes having considered microsurgery of the brain as well as microsurgery of the Medulla spine, with its surrounding structures, it then seemed logical to cover microsurgery of the areas near the brain. In addition to daily work at the operation table, the increasing experience of the University of Freiburg Neurosurgical Hospital in the bordering areas of ophthalmology and ENT was stimulating. Of significance was the work with Prof. Dr. Renate Unsold, Freiburg University Ophthalmological Hospital (Director: Prof. Dr. G. Mackensen) whose experience, published together with C. B. Ostertag, J. DeGroot, and T. H. Newton in "Computer Refprmations of the Brain and Skull Base" offered valuable diagnostic ideas. Some of the findings attributed to Prof. Dr. R. Unsold and Doz. Dr. C. B. Ostertag are again covered here. I thank Prof. Dr. ChI. Beck, Director of University Freiburg ENT-Hospital, for his critical review of the chapter on oro-nasal hypophysis approach.

Eelco F. M. Wijdicks, «The Clinical Practice of Critical Care Neurology»
Oxford University Press | ISBN: 019515729X | 2003 | CHM | 616 pages | 45.05 MB

This book is an invaluable review of neurologic critical care in the intensive care unit. The emphasis is on management in day-to-day practice. Part I is devoted to basic management of critically ill patients with acute neurologic diseases. Part II covers the technology and procedures used in the intensive care unit. Part III discusses the management of specific disorders in critical care neurology. Part IV deals with the management of postoperative neurosurgical complications. Part V covers the management of systemic complications. The final section, Part VI, discusses decisions at the end of life and other responsibilities. An appendix is devoted to the calculation of important variables and provides reference tables for daily practice. For quick reference in the intensive care unit the most useful tables and figures have been extracted by the author and reprinted in an accompanying pocket-sized booklet.
