Dans un village de l'Ouest sauvage américain, un homme, père de famille ayant fuit la Louisiane avec les siens, a fait l'acquisition d'un terrain de plusieurs hectares. Et il ne compte pas s'en séparer. Pas même pour une grosse somme d'argent que lui propose un riche propriétaire qui a déjà fait l'acquisition de toutes les terres environnantes. A force d'essuyer des refus de cette tête de mule de Louisiane, il demande à ses hommes, dirigés par un vilain méchant tout de noir vêtu et très justement appelé Black, d'aller le taquiner. Black étant un peu limité intellectuellement parlant, et surtout un peu impulsif, il fout le feu au ranch, et tue le monsieur ! Le fils de ce dernier, Billy, amoureux de la fille du méchant, promet à sa mère meurtrie de venger sa famille…
