So beautiful melodies and arrangements!!! Masterpiece. Moreover, it's pretty skillfully performed. Extraordinarily rich music. These guys seem to be overflowing with ideas and it's too sad the album is so short. I heard even some celtic inflections (4th piece).. But 2nd side goes so deep into mind - there is no time to think of the origin of this stream, flowing through your brain, imbedding in your memory and making feel magnificent and ineffable pleasure. It's just a paradise for true Art-Rock admirer. Strongest recommendations! Friends, you'll love it :-)

Without doubt, one of the most representative discs of progressive rock. A jewel that few have known how to obtain, really a marvel. The music of this disc is intelligent at each moment, full of elegance and beauty, the musicians knew how to balance their abilities to sound like a group, without leader, without egos, penetrating in their music all that is great of the Mediterranean, this is how the great dream, this is how PFM dream. Without doubt one of the best productions of the great Italy. Not to be missed.

Born on April 29, 1951, Roberto Colombo is a keyboard player, artistic producer and arranger and has worked with bands such as Le Orme, PFM, Finisterre and many other prominent Italian musicians. He's often considered one of the underrated gems in Italy. His solo albums from the 70's have a lot of Frank Zappa influences. In 1976 his first solo album, "Sfogatevi Bestie," was released. 1977 saw the release of "Botte da Orbi." This work verges on progressive and jazz-rock, but is marked by light-hearted ironic tones. He gathers together an all-star band of more than thirty musicians, featuring essentially the cream of the Italian music scene: from Mauro Pagani (PFM) to Walter Calloni (PFM), Ronnie Jackson to Lucio Violin Fabbri (PFM)…

Following an eight-year absence, the Italian rock/progressive group Deus Ex Machina bursts back onto the international scene with Devoto. Blazing into contemporary focus with Devoto, Deus Ex Machina is poised to transcend the accomplishments of its past. Devoto retains Deus Ex Machina’s distinctive blend of fiery, complexly designed music, passionate bel canto vocals, virtuosic instrumental performances and analogue-heavy textures. Here as before, DEM’s music combines both the energy and beauty of early Mahavishnu Orchestra and Larks' Tongues in Aspic-era King Crimson; classic 70s hard rock influences from AC/DC, Deep Purple and, most unmistakably, Led Zeppelin; hints of RIO-tinged avant-progressive; and the unmistakable Mediterranean vibe of fellow 'Rock Progressivo Italiano' combos like PFM…

Blocco Mentale was an Italian prog band from Lazio that was formed in 1972 by Bernardo "Dino" Finocchi (vocals, sax, flute), Aldo Angeletti (vocals, bass), Gigi Bianchi "Roso" (guitar, vocals), Filippo Lazzari (keyboards, vocals, harmonica) and Michele Arena (drums, vocals). In 1973 they released an interesting album called "Πoa" (that in Greek means grass), featuring naives lyrics dealing with ecological subjects, in a style that could remind of bands like Le Orme, New Trolls and PFM. Their album is slightly longer than most vintage RPI at 40 minutes and deals with nature and the creeping realization that man was altering the environment in ways that would eventually lead to destruction.

A French symphonic band from the nineties, VERSAILLES have also been referred to as neo-progressive, but a listen to any of their studio albums reveals obvious and strong influences by the early symphonic masters, including GENESIS, YES, KING CRIMSON, and PFM. Their keyboard work is especially comparable to both GENESIS and YES.

Progressive Rock - @320 - ID3 - Covers

(It's the 2nd album from this aaawwweeeesoooome band. In my last Esperanto post I put the 3rd (and BEST). Next post will be their 1st album, so you'll complete your Esperanto Collection

From the back of the cover:
"Danse Macabre" is a natural evolution from the first album "Esperanto Rock Orchestra".
The dramatic theme running though this second album reflects all aspects of Esperanto and shows a willingness to look for a definitive approach to contemporary music.
Much of this direction has come from Peter Sinfield, who has produced this album following work with King Crimson, ELP and PFM and his influence can be clearly heard throughout.
"Danse Macabre" does not require listening to and should not be played on speakers less than 8" in diameter, in airport lounges, elevators and at dinner parties or immediately after sexual congress.

Italy is also well known for its great bands and, although not quite in the same league as Banco, PFM or Le Orme, Top Left Corner are nonetheless on a part with many similar bands the world over. The guitar playing is explosive at times. The music has a strong song oriented format with good vocals and instrumental work. This is neo prog that will appeal to fans of Arena and Pendragon.
