First released in 1989, Doolittle was the second Pixies album, first to be made commercially available in the US. An instant hit with both critics and fans, its slow burn success has since helped it to sell close to a million copies in the US alone. The 3 CD version contains an impressive 50 tracks - the original album, 2 full Peel Sessions, 6 B-sides and 22 demos - of which, almost half have never been commercially released before.

To follow up their 1988 classic Surfer Rosa, the Pixies brought Gil Norton (Echo & The Bunnymen, Patty Smith, Foo Fighters) on board to produce. The result, 1989's Doolittle (only their second full LP and major-label debut) was an equally brilliant if not superior release to its predecessor. A full-on sensory audio roller coaster, these forty minutes are both a benchmark and timeless monument, mixing surf-pop, alternative and grunge with schizophrenic pacing and lulls-to-head banging jolts.

Though they crafted a signature – and endlessly copied – style, Pixies' music never stayed in the same place for long. During their early years, the band relished change, moving from Come on Pilgrim's scrappy apocalyptic visions to Doolittle's gleaming pop to Trompe Le Monde's riff-rock at a rapid pace. Indeed, it could be argued that part of the reason their 2014 comeback Indie Cindy underwhelmed was because it tried too hard to recapture the past. On Head Carrier, Pixies usher in more than a few changes, the biggest being bassist Paz Lenchantin. Replacing a member may be inconsequential for some bands, but for this one, it's a big deal (pun intended): Founding bassist Kim Deal departed prior to Indie Cindy, and the use of a session player on the album only underscored that a vital part of the group's appeal was missing.

The Pixies are an American alternative rock band that formed in Boston in 1986. The group disbanded in 1993. The band's style of alternative rock music is heavily influenced by punk and indie rock, and while highly melodic, is capable of being abrasive at the same time. While the Pixies found only modest success in their home country, they were significantly more successful in the United Kingdom and elsewhere in Europe, although never achieving mainstream success with their studio albums.

Head Carrier is the sophomore 'post reunion' album from the alt-rock four piece and their first new music since 2014's Indie Cindy. This 12 track record showcases the band's unique mixture of surrealism, psychedelia, dissonance + surf rock. The album was produced by Tom Dalgety (Royal Blood, Killing Joke) and recorded at London's RAK Studios. Paz Lenchantin, the band's touring bassist since early 2014 (and previously a member of A Perfect Circle and Zwan amongst others) is now a permanent member of the band and her cool vocals can be heard on the album, most notably on 'All I Think About Now' on which she takes the lead.
