This album is from the psychedelic era of Porcupine Tree, back when Porcupine Tree sounded like a trippier and heavier version of Pink Floyd. A huge improvement over PT's eclectic debut featuring much stronger songwriting, playing and production values which will appeal to a wide variety of fans with its masterful blend of trip/psych/pop/hard rock. Memorable melodies and guitar moments abound, with outstanding effects and spacey ambience to fill the gaps, all of which combines to take the listener on a real musical journey.

Porcupine Tree - Signify (1996). Signify was the first Porcupine Tree album recorded as a full band unit, rather than primarily by frontman Steven Wilson with occasional assistance from other musicians, primarily the ones who would become full-time band members as of this album; Richard Barbieri, Colin Edwin, and Chris Maitland. Signify marked a change in musical direction for Porcupine Tree. Instead of long ambient and psychedelic musical adventures, the band streamlined their sound into shorter, more digestible bites. Yes, the psychedelic feel is still there and the Floydian vibe is still present (though much weaker). It's just that now Porcupine Tree has been molded into a more palatable listening experience for the radio. A nicely done, excellent work with elements of psychedelic and ambient rock…

Though he initially came to wider attention (at least in the U.K.) with No-Man, his long-running collaboration with Tim Bowness throughout the '90s, singer/guitarist Steven Wilson gained as much of a reputation for Porcupine Tree. Embracing and exploring prog rock inspirations while always keeping an ear out for newer musical connections, thus sidestepping the pointless revivalism of many of the band's peers, Porcupine Tree has created some noteworthy albums and songs over the years, continuing full-strength into the new millennium…

Porcupine Tree's first album for K-Scope/Snapper starts out with a definite bang – "Even Less," with some of the quartet's biggest, blasting rock epic music yet, yet also shot through with the gentler, acoustic side that makes Porcupine Tree so intimate and lovely. The net result easily calls Yes to mind, but Steven Wilson's not so high-pitched as Jon Anderson and Richard Barbieri completely avoids Rick Wakeman's extreme idiocies – prog that knows when less is more…

Porcupine Tree's critically acclaimed 2007 album features six epic tracks that form part of a song-cycle that deals with, "A 21st century cocktail of MTV, sex, prescription drugs, video games, the internet, terminal boredom, and subsequent escape". An aggressively modern merger of Rush's arena art rock, UK prog classicism, Pink Floyd, King Crimson and the post grunge vengeance of Tool.

Octane Twisted, the first album by Porcupine Tree in three years, is a double-live disc recorded at Chicago's Riviera in 2010 during The Incident tour. It also includes highlights from the band's concluding concert at London's Royal Albert Hall. Recording a concept album is fraught with danger as well as possibility; a touring one is an exponentially greater challenge – especially when the studio recording is a chart success. The Incident went Top 30 in both the United Kingdom and the United States.
