Twenty-eight years and eleven full length albums into their career, flagship Hellenic black metal band Rotting Christ unleash Lucifer Over Athens, their second live album. Founded in 1987 by brothers Sakis and Themis Tolis along with Jim Mutilator, also known for his work with Varathron, Rotting Christ was one of the first Greek black metal bands and were the forerunners of that classic, theatrical Hellenic sound…
ROTTING CHRIST have stood the test of time. 'Rituals' is an album that has obviously been written by veterans. The Greek legends inject a 27-year career, 12 albums, and more than 1.200 shows into their songwriting. With confidence and skills derived from experience, each song represents its own sonic universe. Guitarist / vocalist Sakis Tolis and brother Themis on drums achieve a perfect balance of amalgamating their classic and unique style of riffing and rhythm with exciting new elements sprinkled in to keep their material exciting and fresh.
'ΚΑΤΑ ΤΟΝ ΔΑΙΜΟΝΑ ΕΑΥΤΟΥ' personifies the legendary Greek band's profound and majestic metal, which honors both their country’s heritage as well as ancient cultures worldwide. Now "KATA TON DAIMONA EAYTOY" follows the principle of "Do What Thou Wilt" as the threat leading through this amazing album, which makes Sakis' universal claim even more visible. His lyrics on the album are inspired by ancient cultures, myths and folklore from all around the world. ROTTING CHRIST return to mankind’s eldest verse epic with the Sumerian "Gilgameš". They visit the Incas by quoting from the sacred hymns of emperor Pachacutec in "P'unchaw kachun - Tuta kachun". A tale is spun about the undead Russian water spirit "Русалка", which lures men and children into a wet grave. The voice of ancient Persia speaks through "Ahura Mazdā-Aŋra Mainiuu", while "Cine iubeşte şi lasă" offers the Greeks' interpretation of a Romanian folk classic. The latter song is colourfully realised with the stunning vocals of Suzana Vougioukli and Eleni Vougioukli on piano demonstrating the wide range and diversity that make this album so special. Dive deep into "KATA TON DAIMONA EAYTOY" to celebrate and witness its wonders!
Frontman Sakis comments on the artwork: "We are totally satisfied to have collaborated once more with Season of Mist's graphic designer Jérôme for the "AEALO" cover and lay-out. We are really impressed how well Jérôme managed to express our new album's concept on a piece of paper. The weird, the fearful, the furious feelings of a soldier during a battle are there… in front of your eyes!"
