I knew that this was not a great album but I knew that this album contained excellent tracks: "Crystal balls", "This Old Man" and probably "Clair de Lune / Ballerina". I still purchased the CD because judging from experiencefrom cassette format, "Crystal Ball" is truly different. It has beautiful combination between nice vocal, excellent acoustic guitar work and tight composition. This is the kind of song that you want to hear over and over even though it's pretty straight forward. It has nice melody and excellent songwriting. Style-wise, "This Old Man" is similar, it's only different in melody. These two songs are very accessible to those who like rock music in general. The other famous track is "Jennifer". ~ Progarchives

Presenting radio with one of the best rock ballads ever, Cornerstone gave Chicago's Styx their big break with the number one single "Babe," which held that spot for two weeks in October of 1979. "Babe" is a smooth, keyboard-pampered love song that finally credited Dennis De Young's textured vocals…

A&M Records' three-CD Styx box set Chronicles is nothing more or less than three of the band's albums – 1976's Crystal Ball, 1977's The Grand Illusion, and 1978's Pieces of Eight – packaged together. In fact, it looks as though all the label did was take the discs and their one-sheet CD booklets out of their jewel boxes and stick them in a ten-and-a-half by five-and-three-quarters-inch box. Thus, the collection consists of the 1987 CD reissue of Pieces of Eight, the 1988 CD reissue of Crystal Ball, and the 1990 CD reissue of The Grand Illusion. The sound quality tends to be somewhat boxy by later standards, particularly on Crystal Ball, and the information in the booklets is sparse, though The Grand Illusion does boast a lyric sheet.

"In the Beginning" is the debut album by Swiss melodic metal/melodic hard rock band "Crystal Ball", originally released in 1999 and reissued this summer by AFM records following the reissue of their iconic album "Hard impact". While lately recognized as a heavy/power metal outfit with high profile release in these genres, "Crystal Ball" stated out as a band that drew elements from both hard rock and metal standing right between the two. In fact the melodic hard rock/glam metal sound of the late `80s was vastly influential on their early works.

These years of stage experiences became the foundation of CRYSTAL BALL, under whose banner the band became one of Europe’s major forces in the Hard Rock genre.

Crystal Ball have always straddled the blurry line between hard rock and heavy metal and they do so here again. It is the niche in which they exist, the subgenre in which they have grown most comfortable. Powerful but polished guitars, pounding drums, strong vocals, anthemic refrains, stacked harmonies … the band checks off all the appropriate boxes to ensure satisfaction for those who believe heavy and melodic go together like peanut butter and chocolate.
