Neoclassic Power Metal

Iron Mask's sophomore release is an absolute monster of neoclassical power metal. There's plenty of aggression, technical riffing, strong vocal performances, and variety to keep even the most ADD of tastes satisfied…

Glory to the Brave is indeed a classic power metal record – no frills or progressive elements here, just speed-laden, melodic, grandiose anthems about honor, glory, and slaying dragons…

CAPTIVE HEART was a pure American AOR Melodic Rock band from Chicago, one of the many that arrived too late into the scene but deserved the stardom. They recorded this bunch of songs in 1991-92 to land a U.S. deal. Luckily a German label released the tapes in 1996 as "Home Of The Brave", and what an impressive material it is. Much in the style of James Christian (Giuffria, House Of Lords), a la Drive She Said with hints of House Of Lords and Storming Heaven. Jim Peterik (Survivor, Pride Of Lions) also lent his extensive songwriting skills to some of the fabulous tunes.

Jerrald "Jerry" Goldsmith (1929-2004) was one of the most important composers that worked for the movie system in Hollywood. Pupil of Mario Castelnuovo Tedesco, Jacob Gimpel and Miklos Rozsa, Goldsmith began working on radio and television in the 1950s and wrote his first complete score in 1957 for the oscure movie Black Patch. His last scores were the rejected one for Timeline (2003) and for Looney Tunes: Back in Action (2003). He won an Oscar for The Omen (1976). Among others, he wrote the music for Planet of the Apes (1968), Patton (1970), Papillon (1973), Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979), Alien (1979), First Blood (1982), Gremlins (1984), Legend (1985), Lionheart (1987), Total Recall (1990), Basic Instinct (1992), First Knight (1995) and Hollow Man (2000).

Genre: Ethnic Fusion, Ethno Gothic | MP3 | 512 kbps / Stereo | 75,6 MB

For this, her second solo album, Azam Ali, lead vocalist of Vas and Niyaz, takes her patented polycultural blend of ancient and contemporary influences even farther beyond the stratosphere. That she is now a veteran of numerous film scores, including Children of Dune, Earthsea, and Matrix Revolutions, perhaps explains her present more cinematic direction. Born in Iran, reared in India and the US, and gifted with a voice of improbable tonal breadth, flexibility, and beauty, she is backed by collaborators like Trey Gunn (King Crimson), Chris Venna (Nine Inch Nails), Turkish DJ/composer Mercan Dede, the Japanese ensemble Kodo, and Grateful Dead drummer/world percussion enthusiast Mickey Hart. One of the more interesting conundrums inherent in Ali's work is that no matter how much electronic technology she employs, her immersion in her heritage unfailingly comes across loud and clear. Whether she is singing in English, which predominates on these sessions, Farsi, or another language, a prayerful sensuality informs every note. It's as though a sexy Tanagra temple figurine or silk-clad court lady from an antique parchment were to suddenly turn her lovely head and step daintily into the modern world, unfurling precisely the kind of voice one expected but never could have imagined.

Продолжаем шотландскую тему. По многочисленным просьбам выкладываю "Scotland The Brave". Диск весьма своеобразный - много военных маршей. Так что на любителя. Впрочем, волынка представлена хорошо и в целом жалеть не приходиться.

Nina Simone Sings the Blues, issued in 1967, was her RCA label debut, and was a brave departure from the material she had been recording for Phillips. Indeed, her final album for that label, High Priestess of Soul, featured the singer, pianist, and songwriter fronting a virtual orchestra. Here, Simone is backed by a pair of guitarists (Eric Gale and Rudy Stevenson), bassist (Bob Bushnell), drummer (Bernard "Pretty" Purdie), organist (Ernie Hayes), and harmonica player who doubled on saxophone (Buddy Lucas). Simone handled the piano chores. The song selection is key here. Because for all intents and purposes this is perhaps the rawest record Simone ever cut. It opens with the sultry, nocturnal, slow-burning original "Do I Move You," which doesn't beg the question but demands an answer: "Do I move you?/Are you willin'?/Do I groove you?/Is it thrillin'?/Do I soothe you?/Tell the truth now?/Do I move you?/Are you loose now?/The answer better be yeah…It pleases me…." As the guitarists slip and slide around her husky vocal, a harmonica wails in the space between, and Simone's piano is the authority, hard and purposely slow.
