The Legendary Shack Shakers (originally Those or Th' ) are an American rockabilly/blues band that formed in Paducah, Kentucky in the mid-1990s. They are inspired by rock 'n roll, country blues, old time music, carnival music, swamp rock, and other obscure Southern music genres. This punky Southern hillbilly band's secret weapon is its front man, the mercurial "Colonel" J.D. Wilkes, who takes no prisoners with his ferocious harmonica playing and raspy vocals. This live album shows the band in its element, performing breathless high-octane rockabilly filtered through a Southern gothic sensibility. But there's a steely professionalism beneath the seeming chaos, with songs like "Rollin' in My Sweet Baby's Arms" and "Ghost Riders in the Sky" propelled by lightning-fast guitar runs as well as Wilkes's deranged yelling…

One of the best CD of Dimitris Mitropanos with music of the brilliant composer and pianist Thanos Mikroutsikos. Powerful and passionate songs and among them some excellent "zeimbekika" with the unique folk voice of Mitropanos. An album that became many times platinum and remains till today at the first places in the preferences of zeimbekiko's fans. In some refrains you will have the opportunity to hear the "other top folk voice" of Greece, Pashalis Terzis, in harmonic duet with Dimitris Mitropanos.

Mackenzie Allen Philips' youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during a family vacation and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later in the midst of his Great Sadness, Mack receives a suspicious note, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend. Against his better judgment he arrives at the shack on a wintry afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare. What he finds there will change Mack's world forever.

Shifting further away from the frantic blues and punkabilly than on their last album, the Shack Shakers morph into a more European, even Gypsy approach on much of this release. The band's third effort retains all the wild-eyed, frenetic, unhinged qualities that have by now become its calling card. Adding occasional piano, fiddle, horns, and banjo doesn't soften or dilute the overdriven intensity. Rather, it is heightened, as the barely half-hour disc careens and bounces along so breathlessly that most listeners wouldn't want the album to last any longer. Lead singer/harp player J.D. Wilkes remains the main attraction; he writes or co-writes all the songs and his often demonic vocals and frenzied harp shenanigans make this somewhat of a one-man project with lots of guests…

After killing Mrs. Voorhees, who was avenging her son Jason's death, Alice Hardy can finally sigh with relief. But there is just one problem. Jason never drowned at Camp Crystal Lake and lived in the nearby woods as a hermit all this time. The day that Alice beheaded his mother, Jason saw everything and his heart filled with thirst for revenge. Two months later, Alice gets stabbed by an ice pick in the temple and disappears. Is Jason behind this? Five years later, a camp next do to Camp Crystal Lake is built and the counselors start snooping around the old, abandoned camp ruins. This makes Jason very upset, since his shack is next to the remains of Camp Crystal Lake and what is inside the shack shall be kept secret forever, even if it means killing nine people!

Bubba and his son Mac opened the famous Bubba Mac Shack in Somers Point NJ in early 2000. They envisioned a club of their own to bring together many of the great blues acts; including Bubba's own Bubba Mac Blues Band. A passionate musician, Bubba has traveled to many of the hallowed blues halls around the world. This influence was palpable in the flavor of the Shack's food, entertainment lineup and décor. Bubba and Mac's goal was to create a restaurant that was New Orleans meets South Jersey, upscale but down-home. The Shack built for musicians held five bars and three stages. Hundreds of nationally recorded blues acts including James Cotton,…..

The Thoreau You Don't Know: What the Prophet of Environmentalism Really Meant

The Thoreau You Don't Know: What the Prophet of Environmentalism Really Meant
Publisher: Collins | ISBN: 0061710318 | edition 2009 | PDF | 368 pages | 1.29 mb

Henry David Thoreau is one of those authors that readers think they know, even if they don't. He's the solitary curmudgeon with the shack out in the woods, the mystic worshipping solemnly in the quiet church of nature. He's our national Natural Man, the prophet of environmentalism. But here Robert Sullivan—who himself has been called an "urban Thoreau" (New York Times Book Review)—presents the Thoreau you don't know: the activist, the organizer, the gregarious adventurer, the guy who likes to go camping with friends (even if they sometimes accidentally burn the woods down). Sullivan argues that Walden was a book intended to revive America, a communal work forever pigeonholed as a reclusive one, and this misreading is at the heart of our troubled relationship with the environment today. Sullivan shows us not a lonely eccentric but a man in his growing village: a man who danced and sang, who worked throughout his short life at the family pencil-making business, and moved into his parents' house after leaving Walden, but always paid his father rent. Passionate yet whimsical, The Thoreau You Don't Know asks us to re-examine our everyday relationship with the natural world, and one another.

Ferlin Husky shares billing on his volume of Bear Family's ongoing rockabilly and country-boogie series, Gonna Shake This Shack Tonight, with Simon Crum and Terry Preston – two aliases he adopted in the thick of and at the start of his career, respectively. Unlike Collectors' Choice Music's 2002 collection Country Music Is Here to Stay, the focus of this 2016 set is not on the novelties of Simon Crum. Instead, this rounds up 32 sides Husky recorded in any incarnation, with the uniting factor being its swing.
