Lisa Stansfield is an English singer, songwriter and actress. This box is a perfect way to collect the "first" era of Lisa's discography at Arista! All albums are clearly remasters as 2 Cd sets with remixes and -some- rare tracks… It ends with a 3Cds remixes compilation of remixes that makes it nearly awesome! The only things missing here are some single edits (Maybe Edsel thinks of it for a new compilation?), a bunch of remixes, and some collaboration tracks that did not belongs to Arista… and obviously the "very first" Lisa's recording when she was so young…

First recordings of two powerful works from the pen of one of our major composers, John McCabe, who is celebrating his sixtieth birthday this year. Of Time and the River (the title is taken from Thomas Wolfe's novel) is actually the published title of McCabe's Fourth Symphony, written in 1993/4 to a commission by the BBC. The Flute Concerto was written for James Galway in 1989/90 and he gave the first performance of it in 1990 with Michael Tilson Thomas and the London Symphony Orchestra who commissioned the work. Here it is played by the outstanding young flautist Emily Beynon in her first recording for Hyperion.

Starship is an American rock band established in 1985. Although a continuation of Jefferson Starship, its change in musical direction, loss of key Jefferson Starship personnel, and name change sparked a new identity. Love Among the Cannibals is the third album released in 1989 by rock band Starship. It was the first album after Grace Slick's departure from the band, and their last full-length studio release until Loveless Fascination in 2013. The song "Wild Again" had previously been produced for the soundtrack to Cocktail (1988), and was included as a bonus track for the album's CD release. The album had one top 20 single on the Billboard charts, "It's Not Enough", which peaked at No. 12 in October 1989 and was their final Top-40 hit, but the album itself only climbed to No. 64. The track "I'll Be There" went on to being featured in the end credits of Gross Anatomy (1989)…

Holding All the Roses compellingly captures the energy, attitude, and honesty that have already helped to make Blackberry Smoke one of America's hottest live rock 'n' roll outfits, a truly grass-roots phenomenon with a large and fiercely loyal fan base. The 12-song set produced by Grammy-winner Brendan O'Brien, whose previous production clients have included AC/DC, Aerosmith, Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young, showcases the Atlanta-based quintet's emotion-charged mix of bluesy rock, gospel soul, and country, with Charlie Starr's raspy twang matched by his and Paul Jackson's snarling guitars, Brandon Still's hauntingly expressive organ and piano, and the propulsive sibling rhythm section of Richard and Brit Turner.

THE COMPLETE RCA VICTOR RECORDINGS includes the five solo albums Desmond released on RCA's Bluebird imprint in the early 1960s: DESMOND BLUE, TAKE TEN, GLAD TO BE UNHAPPY, BOSSA ANTIGUA and EASY LIVING. Between 1962 and 1964 Paul Desmond , Dave Brubeck's alto saxophonist (and composer of "Take Five"), recorded five remarkable albums for RCA with guitarist Jim Hall. (Listeners might recall that the inimitable Hall also recorded with Sonny Rollins for RCA during the same period.) Luckily, RCA has seen fit to reissue the Desmond-Hall sessions in an attractive 5-CD box. Of these, only the first session, DESMOND BLUE, was arranged for strings. Otherwise it's just Desmond and Hall, a few good bass players and the great MJQ drummer Connie Kay, whom Desmond long revered for his subtle touch.

Well! This was a treat! I remember listening to Giant back in the early 90's and had recently been thinking about the song "I'll See You In My Dreams". I bought this CD and was treated to the best thing I've heard in a long time. There were a lot of "Hair bands" out there when this album was released such as Damn Yankees or Winger who were great. Giant was right up there with them in quality and class. This album has two of the best power ballads that ever were: "I'll See You In My Dreams" and " Love Welcome Home". Besides those two, every song on this album is totally listenable, if that's even a word. The music is so well-balanced between vocals and instruments that you can actually enjoy the singing without being bowled over by overly dramatic instrumentation. Needless to say, I really like this album. I have yet to hear their other album, but I can tell you that it's a shame that Giant disappeared from the scene so quickly. However, Dann Huff is currently a dominant force in the Christian music industry adding his class and talent to a growing genre'. You'll definitely enjoy this group and this album if you give it a chance.

Jimmy Scott (born July 17, 1925), aka "Little" Jimmy Scott, is an American jazz vocalist.

Scott has Kallmann's syndrome, a genetic condition. The condition stunted his growth at four feet eleven inches until, at age 37, he grew another 8 inches to the height of five foot seven inches. The condition prevented him from reaching puberty, leaving him with a high, undeveloped voice in the contralto range, hence his nickname "Little" Jimmy Scott.(Wiki)
