Skylarking is the ninth studio album by the English rock band XTC, released on 27 October 1986. Produced by American musician Todd Rundgren, Skylarking is a loose concept album centered around various cycles in life, such as the seasons, days, and years. The title was chosen as a double entendre, referring to a type of bird (skylark), as well as the British navy term "skylarking", which means "fooling around". The album was listed on "100 greatest albums of the 1980s" lists by Rolling Stone in 1989 and Pitchfork in 2002.

XTC's first full album, White Music shows the band going full-throttle in true punk spirit. More dissonant than their latter period, the young band shines with directionless energy and a good sense of humor…

Chips from the Chocolate Fireball: An Anthology is a CD-only compilation album from XTC which was released under the pseudonym The Dukes of Stratosphear. It includes both their 1985 mini-album 25 O'Clock and the Psonic Psunspot album from 1987. It was re-released as a part of the XTC reissue series in 2001 with songwriters Sir John Johns and The Red Curtain credited under their real names, and superseded in 2009 by special edition versions of both records with numerous bonus tracks. The album artwork was originally intended to resemble that of Frank Zappa's Hot Rats LP, but a miscommunication between the band and Virgin saw a negative photographic effect used as opposed to the infrared photography of Zappa's album. Andy Partridge has gone on record as actively disliking this artwork. ~Wikipedia

This two-disc set delivers exactly what is promised in its parenthetical subtitle. The collection updates XTC's previous singles set, WAXWORKS, with an additional ten year's worth of selections blasted out towards the hit parade. That all of these didn't make a climb to anywhere near the top of the charts is no reflection on their quality–on the contrary, few bands have ever offered this breadth of sterling songs.

Following Go 2, keyboardist Barry Andrews left XTC and, rather than finding a replacement keyboard player, the band opted to recruit another guitarist (who could also play keyboards), Dave Gregory. The album that followed the lineup change, Drums and Wires, marks a turning point for the band, with a more subdued set of songs that reflect an increasing songwriting proficiency. The aimless energy of the first two albums is focused into a cohesive statement with a distinctive voice that retains their clever humor, quirky wordplay, and decidedly British flavor. …
